Here are a few words about the career path of BillyPhobia, a creative, art director, graphic, web and motion designer, video editor, art exhibition curator and illustrator based in Madrid, working with clients worldwide.

He won the first prize in the prestigious award Apple Creative Talent Contest for “Bitácora” (2009), an animated short film which shows how childhood fears can influence people to become someone not to be proud of. It was also awarded third prize at the I International Festival of Fake Trailers, Teaserland. These and other recognitions in different areas of design and illustration are testimony to his versatility, talent and experience. 

He holds a degree in Visual Arts and Multimedia with several masters and postgraduate courses in Art Direction, Digital Design, Motion Graphics and Video Editing. He has an extensive experience working in marketing and communication agencies, as well as freelancer and certified trainer (Adobe, Apple).

Moreover, he has curated, designed and produced art exhibitions, such as “Spanish Batman Artists” (2019-20) or “Legendaria, written and illustrated myths” (2022-23) at Matadero, Madrid Centre for Contemporary Creation. He also participated in the latter as invited artist and restorer of digitized works of art from institutions such as the Spanish National Library, the National Museum of Romanticism or the National Natural Science Museum of Madrid. 

BillyPhobia is also well known as DJ of the underground music scene. Resident of the legendary Phobia, he has played live at several renowned shows and clubs since 1990, mostly in Madrid but also throughout Spain, Europe and beyond. In addition, he built, designed and ran a digital zine and streaming platform during the past decade, together with his own live DJ session to promote the good music that was arising at that time. 

He currently combines his freelance work with his job as creative director of the cultural and creative industry Besarilia. Furthermore, he is the deputy director of the alternative culture platform Sui Generis Madrid, in whose festival he is in addition responsible for the areas of live music, design and art.
