Whales don't cry for suicide (unexpected play)
After a decade mixing emotions and sounds from his unique perspective, Tyves Oben, the inquiring mind behind Place4Tears, has put a finishing touch to a brilliant cycle with the release of "Whales Don't Cry For Suicide - Unexpected Play". As the special occasion demands, he has not limit himself to compiled a handful of acclaimed anthems. In this final act, the dust from the old hymn-sheets has been thoroughly removed, as demonstrated by "Field#4" (unreleased track from the "Heavenly Fields" era) or "Where The Chosen Get Chosen" (which had been only released on "The Fog Presents Silence" sampler) to take some examples. Furthermore the supporting actors help the lead to reinterpretate the Place4Tears' repertoire through their own prisma. As a consequence, this unexpected Requiem has as different sound nuances as artistic personalities performing it. Good evidence for this can be "Dream Sequence", morbid-metallized through the Nemesis Remix by Reactive Black, "Tears of Avalon", elegantly enhanced in the Rain Of Tears Mix by Sean Bowley (Eden) with his dandy-like vocals hovering all, "September's Breath" (three times honoured in the CD), intensely Deathrock approached by The Mescaline Babies, "The Other Side" featuring The Spiritual Bat, which is possessed by Rosetta Garrì's haunting vocals and Dario Passamonti's shimmering chords, or "Princess Valium", industrially stormed by Demoncast including an evocative Lennox-esque chorus, to mention just some of the revised tracks. Also Place4Tears gives full rein to their own creativity as it's revealed in the impromptu version of "Hidden Scream" or the punchy early The Cure-like opener "My Private Beginning" (previously unreleased).
In essence, "Whales don't cry for suicide - U. P." is a collection of perplexing soundscapes which seduce and drown the listener at the same time. Atypical orchestrations where Coldwave, Shoegaze and Old School Goth are craftly blended. Duly varnished with Ethereal and Industrial experimentations, the eighteen tracks of this album bring together the comforting and insane feelings which are inherent in Place4Tears. In addition, the cover and remix versions from their predecessor album "The Silent Flame", provide a wide range of new sensations that rise to the farewell challenge. As if this were not good enough, the CD is packed in an opulent dvd-sized case.
"Whales don't cry for suicide - U. P." is a floating consciousness ticket to the warm lands of melancholy. Take the last Cold-Heavenly-Goth train and have a memorable trip.
In the album: The Spiritual Bat, Sweet Sister Pain, Demoncast, Tragik Black, Vendemmian, Shadow Image, Sean Bowley, The Mescaline Babies, Reactive Black, Verney 1820, Daniel Colleti's Electric Bat Cave, Oberer Totpunkt, Manzana Oscura, and of course a lot of Place 4 Tears.
