ARTS OF EREBUS
On the edge of insanity EP
The French-German Goth Rock act, Arts of Erebus, returned on August the last year with the release of "On the edge of insanity" EP after a long time in silence. The four tracks state the band's updated sound features, so this CD-single is such an excellent preview of their forthcoming album "An Open Case of Parousia". Now, AOE’s compositions are much darker, complex and refined than its predecessors. Part of the merit must be attributed to the band's new singer Raven Burroughs. But make no mistake... all what has defined the Arts of Erebus' own style is still present in their songs but also has been improved and turned into the other side. Gloomy synth atmospheres, crafted guitar melodies (almost progressive) and solemn bass lines, along with the deep and stony vocals, are the master lines of their sound-paintings. Haunting and beautiful stringth-reveries on the edge of insanity.
The limited-edition 4-track digipack release also contains a cover of "Shadow Dance" by The Morendoes as a tribute to singer Jan Kenneth Barkved, who passed away in 2009. A mesmerizing, deeply passionate Goth piece, it was a brave choice, and the result is respectful to the original and truly impressive.
